Summary
Collects clinical specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry, and specimen processing. Provides logistical leadership to colleagues and general assistance to customers.
Job Duties
Identifies patients and collects and properly labels blood specimens from patients in all age groups. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedure for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements.
Orders, receives, and triages incoming specimens/slides and evaluates specimen integrity. Verifies that specimens/slides are labeled according laboratory policy and all paperwork is correct. Performs hospital/laboratory information system functions associated with processes.
Acts as a point person for problem solving. Assists the management team in the daily operations of departmental activities, including scheduling.
Prepares specimens/slides; completes laboratory information system functions and documentation for reference laboratory.
Completes required daily functions, e.g. temperature checks, pending logs, and inventory management.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED and
Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy course or allied health training program.
5 years of Phlebotomy experience.
Must be able to read, understand, and speak basic English.
Demonstrates basic computer skills, including the use of e-mail.
Ability to perform basic math skills.
Demonstrates leadership.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
