We are seeking a Lead Distribution Designer to join our electric utility design engineering team in the St. Louis area.
Those with multiple years of experience may assist in leading teams of (engineers and) designers. This would include both technical work, such as oversight of engineering projects, as well as involvement in team and employee development. In this role, you will be tasked with oversight and QA/QC of simple engineering projects, working directly with clients, and ensuring the Leidos reputation of high quality is maintained. The position will require you to develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems may be in an OH, UG, or URD environment. Project work may include new business and reliability designs.
**This role is remote, but the candidate must be local to St. Louis, MO. area.

The Challenge:
- Work packages will be developed using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.
- Project work will require performing engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices.
- Assignments may also include: preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements.
- Work assignments will include traveling by motor vehicle to various project locations located throughout the area to conduct field investigations.
- Design and construction work package development of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (operating from 4kV through 138kV), mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
- Comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Work independently on larger, moderate projects/assignments
- Explain technical solutions, practices, and procedures pertaining to their assigned project(s) to both the internal organization and the client
- Assist other technical staff with various design tasks & assignments
What Sets You Apart:
- AS Degree and 6-10 years of related experience.
- Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Proven ability to communicate with clients and project teams.
- Detail-oriented and organizational skills.
You Might Also Have:
- Experience with ESRI, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Pole Loading software (O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman) and SAP.
- Experience with projects in distribution design: using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects.
- Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.

Pay Range:Pay Range $66,300.00 - $102,000.00 - $137,700.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
