We are looking for a Mainframe Storage Administrator to join one of our high performing teams responsible for creating, maintaining, backing up and ensuring up-time of the Mainframe DASD storage.   • Implement, migrate, and maintain DFSMS Extended-Addressing volumes (EAV).

  • Diagnose and resolve HSM ARC errors and conduct HSM audits.

  • Analyze, manage, reorganize, and maintain ICF Catalogs and identify improvements.

  • Analyze Mainframe DASD storage availability, SMS constructs, ACS routines, and space availability by SMSPLEX and SYSPLEX.

  • Monitor, maintain, and enhance storage, backups, and data replication for SYSPLEXs.

  • Analyze DASD storage connected across all Logical PARtitions (LPARs).

  • Recommend DASD hardware configurations to reduce operation time, add functionality, or improve efficiency.

  • Provide technical support for teams designing and configuring Mainframe DASD storage subsystems.

  • Test storage changes in the SMS test facility before production implementation.

  • Analyze and determine cause of Mainframe DASD space concerns.

  • Monitor DASD storage resources for performance, available space, and provide additional capacity as required. Account for the deployment of DASD resources.

  • Analyze and recommend SMS construct and Mainframe ACS code modifications.

  • Process required Mainframe SMS construct modifications online using TSO logon and ISMF.

  • Design, support, and analyze Mainframe DASD storage backup and recovery infrastructures. Evaluate backup schedules and data replication resources for recoverability. Identify causes of DASD backup and data replication failures.

  • Provide technical support for HSM and analyze various constructs and parameters.

    • Analyze management class constructs defining retention requirements for data sets.

    • Analyze HSM parameter library members assigned to control execution.

    • Analyze, reorganize, and manage free space for HSM control data sets.

    • Analyze migration on Level 1 and Level 2 tapes to ensure maximum tape density.

    • Support DF/SMS ACS, DF/SMShsm Aggregate Backup and Recovery System (ABARS).

    • Upgrade SMS, HSM and of DFP.

  • Brief management, customer, team, or vendors using written or oral skills at appropriate technical level for audience.

  • All other duties as assigned or directed.

FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Master or Doctorate degree may substitute for required experience.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

  • 7 years of combined experience with DASD, SMS constructs, ACS Routines, HSM.

  • 3 years of combined experience with data preparation (DCOLLECT, DFSORT) and reporting (SAS, MXG, REXX, CLIST).

  • 2 years of experience of project management, ideally of Mainframe storage projects.

  • Ability to occasionally work after 1800 or before 0600.

*** Selected candidate must reside within two (2) hours of SSA Headquarters in Woodlawn, MD OR be willing to relocate prior to first day of employment

These skills will help you succeed in this position:

  • Strong experience with administrating DASD storage

  • Strong experience with administrating HSM using DFSMShsm and ABARS

  • Solid experience with SMS constructs and ACS routines

  • Strong experience with data preparation (DCOLLECT, DFSORT) and reporting (SAS, MXG, REXX, CLIST)

  • Experience implementing, migrating and maintaining DFSMS – Extended-Addressing Volumes (EAV)

  • Experience with T-REX software for ICF Catalogs management.

Showcase your knowledge of modern development through the following experience or skills:

  • Experience with customization and using Mainview SRM, StopX37 for Mainframe storage management.

  • IBM or Interskill badges (e.g., Mainframe Operator - Managing the z/VM Environment, Mainframe Storage Administrator - Data Management Using DFSMS 2.4, DFSMShsm Implementation)

Pay Range:

Pay Range $97,500.00 - $176,250.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
