Job Description
EVENT / BANQUET SERVER
MISSION
Ensure a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all banquet guests. Greet and serve guests, following RCS guidelines for customer service and hospitality. Set tables in assigned area correctly and uniformly, using clean, pressed linens and clean, spotless silverware, china and glassware. Keep station neat and clean during service, patrolling assigned areas, refilling water and coffee, removing service items and condiments, and checking with customers. Assist in the set-up, service, and/or breakdown of coffee breaks, receptions, or other special functions as assigned. Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item being served.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be able to read a BED and know how to complete a setup
- Set tables in assigned area (or check to see that they have been set) correctly and uniformly, using clean, pressed linens and clean, unspotted flatware, glassware and china. Properly clean and fill table complements
- Attend menu class before each function; know the menu being served, and be able to knowledgeably explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item being served
- Greet and serve guests with a smile, following all RCS customer service and hospitality standards, and food and beverage service standards
- Know and use suggestive selling techniques when possible, e.g., selling an a la carte wine, mixed drinks, after dinner cordials, coffees, etc.
- Follow all guest check and money-handling procedures when serving a la carte and beverage orders
- Keep station neat and clean during service. Constantly patrol assigned station, refilling water and coffee, removing service items and condiments, and checking on guests
- Use proper in-room clearing and aisle tray breakdown procedures
- Return all reusable table complements and condiments to be cleaned and refilled
- Assist in setting up or breaking down buffet or other special food service tables and equipment
- Set up, serve and/or break down coffee breaks, receptions, and other special functions as assigned
- Complete any assigned side-work, such as refilling condiments, sorting linen, hanging/storing drapes, cleaning/storing serving equipment, etc.
- Accommodate special requests by guests, wherever possible
- Practice the "clean as you go" policy to uphold RCS' strict sanitation standards
- Offer all guests a parting wish and thank them for coming to the function
- Cross-train in other banquet/restaurant positions
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Event Operations Supervisor
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates, with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to:
- Write, speak, read, hear and see
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Bend, lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Perform manual dexterity and coordination - handling food/drink trays, breakables and hot dishes
