Job Description
LIFEGUARD (Summer Seasonal Position)
MISSION
Provide alert and active supervision of adults and children utilizing the pool and deck facilities, to ensure the safety of all those in the pool area. To perform daily pool maintenance functions to uphold all public and LSI standards for cleanliness and safety, and provide a neat, aesthetically pleasing aquatic environment for our members and guests. To develop rapport with pool users of all ages and interests.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Alertly and actively supervise the pool areas, spa and deck space; make sure you are visible to all pool users and give them your undivided attention
- Assist members with questions or problems
- Enforce all pool rules and policies, fairly and consistently
- Immediately intervene in any emergency situation or potentially hazardous situation
- Be fully comfortable with using any of the club’s rescue or safety equipment
- Perform appropriate first aid and emergency care when an accident occurs
- Promote aquatic programs through direct contact/interaction with pool users
- Be familiar with the pool and swim programming schedule on a daily basis
- Check pool temperature, chemical levels, and water clarity at LSI prescribed intervals; make adjustments as necessary
- Contact the Aquatics Director, Operations Director or Floor Coverage Manager if there is a problem with pool maintenance you are not qualified to handle alone
- Keep the deck area neat and clean; ensure there are clear walkways around perimeter of pool; pick up towels; straighten and wipe down furniture; place litter in cans; put kickboards in storage bin; etc.
- Complete daily cleaning checklists
- Be familiar with LSI Facility Walkthrough Standards for the pool and conduct visual pool inspections throughout shift; note any discrepancies with standards and inform Aquatics Director
- Participate in ongoing lifeguard training provided by the club
- Continually practice life guarding skills; maintain required certifications (Red Cross lifeguard training; CPR for the basic rescuer; First Aid for the basic rescuer)
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Club Operations
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidate, with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to:
- Write, read, speak, hear and see
- Pass the lifeguard certification course
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Work outdoors and exposed to sun for prolonged periods
- Project voice across a crowded, noisy pool, on a sustained basis
- Lift, carry and utilize safety equipment such as spinal board, ring buoy, reaching pole, shepherds hook
- Bend, lift and carry up to 40 lbs. (or more in event of a pool rescue)
- Set-up and take-down of light equipment
- Climb up and sit in elevated lifeguard chair
