We are seeking a Music Teacher to join our Visual and Performing Arts team. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about bringing music education to a diverse population at a collaborative inter-disciplinary organization. The Music Teacher will provide music education classes at all program locations and in the following programs: two Older Adult Centers; Early Childhood Center; Caregiver Program, CARE Program for older adults with dementia, Women’s Mental Health Shelter at the Park Ave Armory and Supportive Housing Residence Casa Mutua.
The Music Teacher will:
- Facilitate dynamic music programming for a variety of populations across our organization
- Develop and lead music education classes and performances for our 3 and 4-year-old classrooms in our Early Childhood Center
- Create and lead programs and classes on a variety of topics related to music for our Older Adult Centers and clients at our Women’s Shelter and Casa Mutua and provide general supervision of participants during music classes and related activities.
- Lead and perform live music with CARE, our day program for adults living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia
- Work with a team of teaching artists to create and facilitate performance opportunities for clients and community members
- Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s staff from a variety of departments and disciplines to expand and strengthen our arts programs
- Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Visual and Performing Arts
Qualifications:
The Music Teacher will possess a combination of music and educational programming skills. They will be a caring individual with strong skills working with diverse populations with a variety of skill levels and interests. They will be energetic, organized and self-motivated, and will also be highly creative and thoughtful in the development and oversight of music-related educational programming. They must have excellent communication and group management skills, with a demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing quality arts education. Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in music, musical theatre or related field required. Two years' previous experience teaching music to groups required. Piano proficiency required.
