POSITION SUMMARY
The Regional Clinical Applications Manager shall be responsible for providing leadership to regionally-based Clinical Applications Specialists “CAS” and serve as their direct manager, in addition to performing CAS responsibilities by providing training for LENSAR customers and employees, as required. This role develops, directs, and implements all activities for regional CAS team to guarantee the highest quality clinical training to external and internal customers, while also ensuring compliance with all applicable LENSAR, FDA, and other regulatory guidelines as related to the use of our system(s) and patient care. Other responsibilities of this role include providing clinical feedback, reviewing customer complaints that require clinical input, ensuring timely execution of internal assigned projects, directing the activities of the Senior CAS, and managing the team to meet corporate goals and objectives.
This position is field-based, but requires regular visits to the corporate office and various regions throughout the US and internationally, through LENSAR’s distributors, as Senior Management deems necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for hiring, management, certification, and direction of Clinical Application Specialists in assigned region. Ensure timely execution of customer certification as requested by customer service. Ensure timely delivery and review of customer complaints as they relate to clinical findings.
  • Direct and coordinate customer training and certification on the ALLY and LENSAR Laser System (LLS). Provide ongoing feedback surrounding training process and assets to the Director of Clinical Applications and the Clinical Education Training Specialist to ensure continuous improvement in the training programs.
  • Manage and assist in the development of policies, procedures, objectives, goals, and programs for the Clinical Applications department. Manage and monitor expenses, field reporting, and daily activities of regional CAS team. Must interact with sales, marketing, practice development, and technical service teams serving as subject matter expert regarding clinical issues.
  • Attend regional, national, and international meetings to support equipment demonstrations and to interface with LENSAR customers. Assist with outcomes tracking and clinical studies, as requested.
  • Provide consistent communication to direct supervisor, cross-functional teams, and Senior Management. Assist the Director of Clinical Applications in the completion of call/complaint resolution in accordance with MDR/FDA guidelines.
  • Conduct performance reviews, supported by regular employee meetings, training and development, goal setting and corrective action.
  • Provide direct customer support as needed domestically and internationally.
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / EDUCATION

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree health sciences, a paramedical or equivalent in work experience in the anterior segment of the eye.
  • At least 5 years of clinical applications experience or clinical management in a medical device field.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training to medical staff.
  • Strong computer and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer relations skills.
  • Understanding of human eye anatomy, corneal topography and keratometry including optics and refraction.
  • The ability to travel up to 70% in the U.S. and up to 30% outside the U.S.
Preferred:
  • At least 3 years’ work experience with cataract surgery in an operating room environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Regional Clinical Applications Manager’ job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with all levels of the organization, as well as internal/external customers. The employee must be able to stand on average between four to five hours at a time during surgery training. There may be opportunities for brief sit-down breaks. The employee must lift, move, and control physical inventory, office supplies, or travel equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of the Regional Clinical Applications Manager, the employee will work out of their home office. They will be required to travel frequently in order to meet with doctors and administrators in both an office and operating room environment. Overnight stays are the rule and not the exception. Travel and essential job duties may involve extended hours and occasional weekends. The employee works near and around moving mechanical parts and is exposed to laser radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
