Summary

Position reports directly to the General Services Superintendent. This position will assist the GS Superintendent in all support operations for the yeast manufacturing and drying plants, as well as the wastewater treatment operations. May receive occasional work direction from other Plant Management.

This position will have direct responsibility for general services/customer service operators as well as farm/wastewater treatment operators. This position will require the ability to perform every operator job in this department as necessary and cover for operator absences on an emergency basis. In addition, this supervisor will cover for the General Services Superintendent as needed.

This position will require proactive and professional communication across a broad spectrum of personnel including contractors, farmers, truck drivers, and corporate support staff.

This position supports the entirety of the Dothan Plant operations to ensure a safe, organized, and quality workplace. This includes being a leader and participant in a world class safety culture.

Above average knowledge or ability to learn computer applications, including Microsoft Office & SAP/Oracle are essential to this job function.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following…

  • Work with corporate customer service to oversee truck loading schedule and report to GS Superintendent any issues or deviations from the schedule that may impact customer.
  • Supervise all aspects of the wastewater treatment farm including irrigation, operator schedules and tasks, farmer management, contractor management, and state regulations/sampling requirements.
  • Work independently with plant consultant and outside lab on wastewater treatment and testing.
  • Accurately record all data related to farm operations in spreadsheets or other software for audit needs.
  • Supervise all aspects of the General Services department including operator schedules and tasks, cleaning schedules, incoming and outbound shipments, contractor management, and plant inventory.
  • Accurately record and document all necessary paperwork for the above listed tasks for audit needs.
  • Daily update of GS/Farm VPM board. 5S and Lean documentation.
  • Daily update of maintenance Mapcon/workorder issuing and completion monitoring.
  • Daily check of the cleaning schedule and supervision that tasks are being done properly.
  • Weekly check of the eye wash/safety shower inspection forms and periodic audit that they are being done properly.
  • Weekly inspection of the cream load out magnet trap inspection log and that it is being done properly.
  • Ensure Semi-Annual stormwater samples are being taken per permit requirements and taken to outside lab correctly for analysis.
  • Scanning and file retention for all ingredient and raw material ordering as well as finished product shipping from dryer.
  • Assist with various support duties when necessary for plant operation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the GS Superintendent or Plant Manager.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises a total of 5 hourly employees. (2 Farm Operators & 3 GS Operators). Indirectly responsible for other teams in the plant to ensure tasks are being completed and safety culture is being adhered to.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, scheduling, and evaluation of these individuals.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Active and hands on supervision to problem solve and resolve day to day issues.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel.

  • Must be customer service oriented and skilled in positively resolving customer and public concerns.

  • Must be able to communicate with outside vendors, contractors, and team members professionally and positively.
  • Above average spreadsheet and word processing skills are required. Windows operating system and Microsoft Office experience required.
  • Requires ability to resolve issues related to customer service, shipments, deliveries, outside vendors.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize are required to handle detailed information and multiple tasks/priorities.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn ERP systems effectively such as Oracle/SAP is required for this position.
  • The ability to prioritize, organize and delegate to others while following through to ensure completion of assignments is required.
  • Paperwork/spreadsheets demand high level of attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills with proven decision-making ability
  • Experience in leadership in a factory/manufacturing setting preferred. Experience with 5S and Lean Principles preferred.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work out issues by professional communication through multiple departments/individuals is a requirement of this position.


EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma required. 5 years of experience in a food grade production facility or similar industry preferred. Progressive experience in management and people leadership preferred. Education in chemistry, soil/ag science, or business a plus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to type routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization. Must communicate with multiple departments and vendors professionally and clearly.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to interpret large amounts of data for reporting and process improvement.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Primary functions of this position are in the office environment but must occasionally be in production areas or exposed to outside weather.
