    Director of Communication

    SUMMARY: Responsible for leveraging the District’s image and maximizing all forms of communication. Responsible for ensuring the development, implementation, and maintenance of accurate, internal and external District communication and communication systems. Coordinates and monitors the use of the District’s communication systems including the website, social media, events calendar, and parent communication systems. Aligns overarching communication strategy with district vision, mission, values, and goals.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRE THE ABILITY TO:

    • Research, create, design, produce, and maintain publications in a variety of mediums including, but not limited to, presentations, press releases, brochures/pamphlets, electronic newsletters, District website, calendars, and social media sites.
    • Ensure equality, consistency of design, and cost-effectiveness across all forms of publications. Utilize graphic design and publication software.
    • Respond to and provide communications leadership in crisis incident response, serving as spokesperson as needed.
    • Use District strategic communication plans to create communication tools appropriate for all audiences.
    • Provide communications, public relations and marketing expertise to District leadership consistent with the district’s strategic plan and goals.
    • Coordinate work with local businesses and clubs to ensure visibility, enhance the District’s reputation, and gather support for District initiatives.
    • Collect data, monitoring for effectiveness of District communications.
    • Provide coordination of communication and public relationship efforts, ensuring that the District is well represented and following the communication plan.
    • Provide appropriate responses to requests for information regarding the District.
    • Play a key role in the development of communication strategies regarding District matters. Accurately project communication needs for budget planning. Plan, track, spend dollars within budget constraints.
    • Use discretion with private or confidential matters.
    • Attend meetings and events as necessary.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar position with specific experience in editing, publication layout, use of graphic design and publication software, writing press releases, creating presentations, and public speaking. Must be able to maintain a working knowledge of video and camera equipment. Ability to edit video is preferred. Must have the ability and knowledge of how to prepare files for print or web publication. Must have an understanding of web analytics and strategies.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record insurable by the District. Must be willing and able to be an active member of COSPRA and the National School Public Relations Association.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Flexible and accessible. Must have the ability to consistently meet and/or exceed stringent deadlines. Ability to rapidly prepare speeches, press releases, and articles for publication. Above average presentation skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Advanced verbal and written communication, proofreading, grammar, spelling, research skills, and interpersonal skills. Advanced computer/technology skills including word processing, editing, formatting, and database and project management software. Ability to show independent initiative, continually focused on enhancing the District’s reputation while understanding the impact a decision may have on stakeholders. A positive attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, stand and travel from the administration building to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent lifting of five (5) to ten (10) pounds and occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds. Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and reaching are required. Occasionally, the job may require odd hours or around the clock calls/access should an emergency occur. Schedules can be irregular with frequent interruptions. Schedules may have to be rearranged to meet deadlines.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside and is required to participate in outdoor activities occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually low; however, the office can be extremely busy.

    $95,000-110,000
