Job Summary and Qualifications

The Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) ensures and delivers high quality, patient-centered care and coordination of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift. In collaboration with other members of the management team, the CNC directs, monitors, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures, serves as a resource person for staff, and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

What you will do in this role:

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians and all aspects of the health care team.
  • Effectively promotes and enforces customer service standards. Supports department director with staff and provides feedback regarding staff performance and/or problems.
  • Works towards optimizing patient outcomes utilizing evidence based practice, and oversees Unit Based Practice Council.
  • Coordinates with the Nursing Director to elevate the clinical expertise and practices of the staff by evaluating the clinical practice and critical thinking skills of the nursing staff as well as modeling best practices .
  • Pursues opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Communicates with staff, and others to exchange feedback on service issues and to solve problems including patient and physician complaints.
  • Assists with the orientation of new hires.
  • Participates in facility-wide projects and committees. Assists Director with miscellaneous duties or special projects.
  • Provides leadership through coordination of services, including monitoring financial indicators for departments and adjusting staffing.
  • Promotes team building and department cohesiveness through open communication.
  • Responsible for the overall daily function/staffing of the department.
  • Assimilates appropriate data necessary for care of the patient and assesses the same for the staff.

  • Maintains statistical reports. Assists in the development of the department’s annual operating and capital budget.
  • Functions as Surgical Services Director role as needed.
  • Demonstrates Clinical Judgment as evidenced by graduate of a school of nursing and has successfully passed board exam for licensure.
  • The RN demonstrates the essential clinical knowledge to positively affect patient outcomes though implementation of the nursing process of assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating care within the scope of nursing practice per the guidelines of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Demonstrates clinical wisdom through application knowledge.
  • Documents effectively and succinctly in a timely fashion.
  • Incorporates time management and prioritizes to demonstrate clinical judgment with efficiency.
  • Follows LGHM process for dispensing of medications and narcotic control.
  • Resolves clinical problems that occur in the Operating Room.
  • Questions and evaluates practice, creates practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning.
  • Motivated to seek literature to answer questions, and brings best evidence to the clinical area rather than relying on tradition.
  • Completes annual educational requirements and other recommended learning activities.


What qualifications you will need:

  • Required: Five years experience as a Registered Nurse with demonstrated proficiency in leadership and management skills in area of expertise.
  • Preferred: Seven years clinical experience in Perioperative Nursing and leadership experience


  • EDUCATION:
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Virginia. BSN or currently enrolled in a BSN program
  • Preferred: BSN or MSN

CERTIFICATION:

  • Required:
  • BLS within 90 days
  • National certification in area of expertise.
