Painter Overview:
The Painter will be responsible for coating/painting the appropriate surface of structural steel pieces in accordance with SSPC specifications.
Painter Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives finished material from the shop, prepares surface for coating and sets up paint equipment to paint a maximum number of pieces in the most efficient manner.
- Gathers needed materials and specifications according to the applicable department prints.
- Loads finished pieces on trailers for shipping.
- Must be able to perform duties of a painter trainee.
- Responsible for adhering to all company safety and OSHA regulations.
- The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
Painter Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ commercial painting experience with basic knowledge of Structural Steel Fabrication operations.
- Must be able to understand paint codes.
- Must be familiar with paint equipment and different coatings.
- Should have some knowledge of how to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
- Must have airless experience.
- Experience using zinc and epoxy is required.
- Must be able to read a tape measure and work fractions.
Painter Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds frequently.
- Must be able to lift your whole bodyweight while climbing.
- Must be able to stand, bend, kneel often and walk for long periods.
- Must use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
- Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations, and a dusty/noisy work environment.
This role is classified as safety sensitive. Candidates must show the capacity to proactively initiate, effectively lead, and consistently uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards. Compliance with this requirement is a fundamental condition for employment.
