Position Title: Coordinator of Special Services
Department: Special Services
Reports To: Director of Special Services and Chief Academic & Innovation Officer

SUMMARY:
Secondary Special Services Coordinator; all duties listed apply to grades 6 - 12 and 18 -21 year olds unless otherwise stated

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned
Special Education Curriculum and Instruction
  • ImplementationObservationsCoaching
  • Professional developmentMonitor implementation of Transition CurriculumIEPs and Accountability
  • General compliance/feedbackCollaborate with Secondary Coordinator for trainingAttend IEP/504 meetings, as requestedProgress MonitoringLRE monitoringCollaborate with district testing coordinator on all middle and high school district and state assessmentsCollaborate with schools and families, as neededFacilitate implementation of SC Employability CredentialAssist teams in developing transition plans for studentsState Department Reporting
  • Indicator 13Manage SPED caseloads and monitor numbersAttend Instruction Team and District Assistance Team Meetings (DAT)Participate in community initiatives

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with Federal and State laws and regulations pertinent to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Ability to work successfully in stressful and high need situations. Ability to organize, prioritize, and respond to multiple tasks. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, parents, and the community. Proficiency with Google, Enrich, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Masters Degree required. Prior experience in Special Education Services and administrative certification preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to develop effective working relationships with parents, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment.
