TITLE: Head Athletic Trainer 

 

SCHOOL: Lexington High School 

 

DEPARTMENT: Athletics 

 

Supervisor: LPS Director of Athletics 

 

Salary: $58,000 - $65,000 based on experience.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 month plus position, mid-August to the end of June.  Benefits in line with non-union staff, average 40 hours per week.  Variable hours with game coverage and the needs of the department.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

 

Institute and maintain a comprehensive and effective athletic training program for Lexington High School’s interscholastic athletic program. This includes but is not limited to, in season and out of season strength & conditioning consultation with coaches, athletic injury prevention and treatment, injury rehabilitation (under the direction of and in consultation with school physician or personal physician). Additional responsibilities include concussion baseline screening, home game athletic training coverage and scheduling of coverage, and supervision of all concussion return to play protocol. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelors and Masters degree (preferred) in related fields. 
  2. Licensed with the State of Massachusetts (with the expectation to maintain and renew license as required) 
  3. BOC Certification (with the expectation to maintain and renew certification as required) 4. CPR/AED Certification (Recertification every 2 years) 
  4. Concussion Training (Annually will retake training) 
  5. Ability to administer therapy to rehabilitating injured athletes as prescribed by a medical doctor 
  6. Possess personal qualities necessary to develop positive relationships and communication with professional and non-professional staff members, coaches, school physicians, athletes, and parents. 
  7. Ability to work with the Athletic Director and Athletic Department Administrative Assistant on matters of Student-Athlete Registration, Impact Concussion Software, Electronic Medical Journaling of Injury and Treatment Programming, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Oversee the entire sports medicine program for all athletes 
  2. Establish specific hours on a daily basis when any athlete in need of the trainer’s services wouldbe able to receive proper treatment (this shall include school vacation periods)
  3. Attend or schedule coverage for all home varsity athletic contests, away varsity football games, and all home and away MIAA tournament games
  4. Assume complete responsibility for the training room, training supplies, develop practices and procedures for use of the training room 
  5. Provide coverage from the beginning of the fall sport season (including pre-season practices) to the conclusion of the spring season (completed when all teams are finished postseason participation) 
  6. Assess and treat injuries using a wide variety of modalities and supervise doctor prescribed rehabilitation 
  7. Maintain an electronic record of injuries (including concussions) 
  8. Maintain an inventory of all medical supplies, first aid kits (provided to each team at all levels), AEDs, and training equipment 
  9. Coordinate all reports of injuries for insurance purposes 
  10. Develop a budget in conjunction with Athletic Director for the purchase of supplies and equipment 
  11. Share professional literature relative to athletic training and player safety with the school’s coaching staff 
  12. Work with the Athletic Director on a daily basis to ensure coordination of events 13. Attend all parent/athlete/coach meetings to discuss the role of the athletic trainer 14. Perform other such duties in his/her area of responsibility as needed 
  13. Serve as a resource person for the coaching staff for the planning of conditioning and nutritional programs
  14. Keep abreast of current trends and training techniques by attending professional development workshops and courses conditional to maintaining state licensure 17. Compile end of year data and complete Dept. of Health (DPH) report 
  15. Assist AD in scheduling annual calibration of all therapy equipment in the training room.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

 

The athletic trainer will collaborate with the Athletic Director and Assistant Trainers to determine a weekly schedule that works to meet the needs of all student-athletes and coaches at Lexington High School. Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season, but will always include school vacation weeks, weeknights and weekends. The Lexington High School Head Athletic Trainer will be expected to report to school on a daily basis in preparation to meet with coaches and treat student-athletes when school is dismissed and remain on campus until the last practice and/or game is completed.
