Position Overview
The Buyer / Planner will be responsible for planning and execution of direct and indirect (MRO) material purchases, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with volume production. This position has extensive interaction with Production, QA, Engineering, Logistics, and Incoming Receiving.
Primary responsibilities.
Place purchase orders with supplier(s) for production materials and track delivery dates to ensure on time delivery. Review purchase order content for assurance to A123’s requirements.- Expedite deliveries as required to meet order demands
- Manage inventory levels for purchased and manufactured components while working with the Master Scheduler
- Negotiate pricing, delivery and quantity with suppliers interpreting Quality, Delivery, Lead time, Inventory, and Price philosophy.
- Coordinate quality issues with suppliers as required and manage returns
- Inform management of significant supplier issues and supply markets
- Participate in the ECO review and approval process as a Supply Chain representative
Specific Skills/Abilities
A minimum of 3 years experience in Planning, Purchasing and Supply Chain in a manufacturing environment.- Team player who can also work well independently and with little direction
- Windows Excel – Intermediate Level.
- Experience using ERP Systems (SAP – Infor).
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Attention to detail with strong follow-up skills.
- Listening, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and requests in an efficient manner and on a timely basis
- Problem solving and decision making ability.
Education/Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain or related technical field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience or more, preferably in a manufacturing and/or hi-tech environment.
Desired (Not Required)
Travel is less than 10% of time.
