Assistant Controller

Pay rate: $30.00 - $34.00/hr

Contracted Position Nov. 2024 - Nov. 2025 - 1 year duration.

Fully Onsite Position in Mount Prospect, IL

Overview:

The Assistant Controller will provide critical support to the finance team, assisting with key accounting functions during a defined period. This role will focus on overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and providing financial analysis and reporting. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data and assisting with special projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Assist in the preparation of management reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Perform variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance for management.
• Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Review and reconcile key accounts, including bank accounts, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
• Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all closing activities.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures to maintain financial integrity.
• Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations and assist with the preparation of tax filings.
• Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and supported.
• Monitor cash flow and manage short-term cash requirements to ensure adequate liquidity.
• Assist with the management of banking relationships and facilitate payment processing and vendor settlements.
• Provide guidance and leadership to the accounting team, ensuring accuracy in their work and adherence to deadlines.
• Assist with training and development of junior team members as needed.
• Act as a key point of contact for accounting staff and resolve complex accounting issues.
• Work closely with the Controller, CFO, and other finance leaders to support broader financial strategies.
• Provide interim leadership to the finance team in the absence of the Controller.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
• Direct experience with SOX Compliance and reporting
• 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant controller role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Experience with audits and familiarity with internal controls.
• Ability to start immediately and work with minimal supervision.
  
  

Pay Details: $30.00 to $34.00 per hour
