The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time Lateral Firefighter within the Fire Services department. To be qualified to apply, you must have a minimum of two (2) years of firefighting experience with a career department AND must have served with a career department within the last ninety (90) days and in good standing. The Lateral Firefighter is assigned to the Training Division for evaluation and training for two (2) weeks, followed by FTO evaluation. Upon successful completion of evaluation period, the individual is assigned to a fire station working 24/48 shifts.
This position is responsible for responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, urban rescue and other calls to protect life and property; to participate in fire prevention and training; and to maintain the fire station and firefighting equipment.
Responds to calls for emergency and non-emergency services.
Performs firefighting work to include preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires, rescue fire and accident victims, provides emergency medical care (within scope of practice), and identifies hazardous materials incidents.
Maintains and checks equipment and apparatus to be in a constant state of readiness to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
Provides fire prevention information to the public for fire and life safety education.
Enters information into the computer programs for call reporting, equipment inventory, information sharing, and communication.
Performs housekeeping, building maintenance, and ground keeping duties.
Drives department vehicles including passenger vehicles and fire apparatus in emergency and non- emergency modes in response to calls for service, normal work requirements, and training.
Subject to recall / hold over for minimum staffing and emergency events.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

> Current Basic Life Support Card (AHA)

> Current NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
The Lateral Firefighter is assigned to the Training Division for evaluation and training for two (2) weeks, followed by FTO evaluation. During the evaluation period, the hourly rate of pay is $16.16. Upon successful completion of the evaluation period, the individual is assigned to a fire station working 24/48 shifts and with a minimum annual compensation of $48,700 (including scheduled overtime). Additional overtime is available.
