Job Summary
The Director Government Affairs will be accountable for the overall management and performance of the government and public affairs function within the state of California and contributes to the coordination of the activities of the department of Government and Public Affairs.
Job Summary Details
- Leads the state and local legislative in order to assess the effect of various policy initiatives on the strategic interests of LIBERTY Dental Plan and its partners.
- Provides leadership in setting priorities, developing policy positions and engaging with regional leadership teams.
- Acts as a key strategic resource for operations leaders, business development and strategy professionals.
- Translates external state-based government and stakeholder activity and developments to support direction and increased performance levels.
- Develops, maintains and manages the organizations relationships with key external partners, stakeholders and constituencies in support of LIBERTY's goals.
- Ensures compliance with all policies, laws and legal requirements on lobbying activities.
- Coordinates and connects LIBERTY's leadership with key policymakers.
- Develops and provides supporting materials.
- Implements and maintain effective communication structures to inform LIBERTY leaders about state and local legislative and policy issues.
- This includes providing educational presentations to internal audiences on government relations and advocacy.
- Leads the production of white papers and analysis, recommend positioning on legislative measures and regulatory proposals.
- Leads the tracking of state and local health policy issues and provides appropriate updates.
- Constructs position statements, media materials, newsletter articles and other pieces for use in both internal and external strategic communication on Oral health and Dentistry policy issues.
- Provides support and information to public affairs and community relations coordinators regarding legislators and public policy issues.
Education/Experience
- 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Law, Political Science, Business, Government, or Health Administration; or equivalent
- 3 years of work experience in legislative activities in the state of California.
Specific Skills/Knowledge
- Leadership, program management, communication, analytical, creative conceptual thinking, and writing skills.
- Ability to research, write, and public speak with personal computer and software applications.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal governmental legislative and regulatory processes and governmental relations.
- Ability to be analytical, creative, and conceptual in research, presentation and writing skills.
- Ability to travel frequently within the state of California.
- CalAIM familiarity is preferred.
Work Environment
- Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
- Sedentary work involves extensive sitting, typing, close range vision most of the time.
