Position Summary:
As the Prevention Caseworker, you will assist the Prevention Supervisor in their goal to prevent placement of children outside of the home and/or working to improve their academic performance. Your responsibilities will include tasks such as advocacy, completing referrals, crisis intervention, and group, individual, or family counseling. The Prevention Caseworker will aim to use the task centered case model when supporting the individuals and their families in order to keep the family unit intact.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assesses children and families for risk, develops and implements service plans to address risk factors, drafts petitions and testifies in Family Court as necessary. Provides Foster Care Services and locates placements when needed.
  • Advocates on behalf of children and their families to ensure adequacy of services (i.e., educational, legal and community) by providing linkage and coordination with the county providers and agencies.
  • Processes and reviews intake of all referrals to program.
  • Provides services in a manner which is culturally competent. Empowers clients by using clients’ cultural strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.
  • Maintains effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients’ and program goals.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related experience working in a school and/or home-based setting providing services to individuals and families.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of complex systems (ex. Probation, Family Court, Foster Care), child welfare, juvenile justice and Oswego DSS systems and protocols.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to incorporate that understanding into service provision.
  • Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
