Treatment Specialist Position Summary : Under the direct supervision of the Placement Diversion / Family Reunification Services Program Supervisor, the Treatment Specialist is primarily responsible for the provision of individual and family therapeutic services to children and families involved in the juvenile justice system.

The Treatment Specialist conducts assessments, develops treatment plans and works collaboratively with Department representatives / caseworkers and families to achieve family stability and prevent placement and / or re-placement.

The Specialist also prepares court reports and provides testimony in family court as needed. This is a part-time 20 hours a week position.

Treatment Specialist Job Responsibilities :

  • Reviews program referrals and determines appropriateness of referral.
  • Conducts intake assessments, including gathering data from parents, children, caseworkers and other relevant sources.
  • Collaborates with probation to complete assessment and for Family Reunification cases collaborates with residential facility staff to assess readiness for discharge and discharge planning.
  • Utilizes diagnostic and assessment information, develops preliminary and comprehensive treatment plans in collaboration with client system and the Juvenile Probation Department.
  • Provides short-term and long-term therapeutic services to children and families, including individual and family sessions and case management services.
  • Serves as a case manager on behalf of program participants to ensure adequacy of services (i.e. educational, legal & community) by providing linkages with county providers and agencies.
  • Conducts regular information sharing sessions with the Juvenile Probation Department staff.
  • Provides crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Provides information and referral services to program participant.
  • Utilizes clinical interventions and provides treatment to assist program participants in identifying and resolving issues related to their involvement with the juvenile justice system.
  • Conducts home visits to gather information and provide interventions.
  • Develops and provides treatment summaries and recommendations to the family, the Juvenile Probation Department, and court as required.

This includes providing family court testimony.

  • Demonstrates the values of diversity, equity and belonging; foster an inclusive environment that facilitates diversity.
  • Maintains effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients’ and program goals.
  • Identifies and reports on Untoward Incidents as required.
  • Carries out Agency policies and procedures.
  • Completes all necessary written reports, statistics, case files and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
  • Attends and participates in individual supervisory conferences, staff meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.

Maintains required program certifications.

Provides door to door transportation as required. Ensures safety and welfare of passengers during loading, unloading and transit.

Makes use of personal vehicle for program transportation as required.

  • Handles emergency situations which may require flexibility of time and area of assignment.
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned. Qualifications
  • Masters in Social Work or related clinical degree and one (1) year post-graduate experience in providing clinical services to families and children.
  • Assessment and treatment planning experience needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid State of Texas driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and with flexibility in days and hours of work.
