ESL Literacy Consultant, Temporary

The ESL Consultant will be responsible for launching the ESL component of the Adult Literacy program. The Consultant will use best practices to establish one on one tutoring, Conversational English groups, and small class instruction (3-5 people) and provide a recommended roadmap for ongoing service provision. This temporary position ends June 30, 2024.

The ESL Consultant must be able to perform each of the following essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily:

Work closely with all library staff, community partners and volunteers to plan, implement, facilitate, and promote ESL literacy activities, programs, and projects.

Plan, execute, evaluate, and report on one on one instruction, Conversational English, and small class instruction.

Model best practices in ESL instruction to staff and to volunteers.

Produce a roadmap for ongoing ESL services at Simi Valley Public Library.

Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.

Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron/learner privacy and custodianship of patron/learner records.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Familiarity with varied pedagogical practices related to literacy, adult learners, and ESL learners.

Bilingual abilities are preferred.

Sensitivity to a wide range of cultures.

Competency with planning, executing, and evaluating programs.

Ability to build and maintain community partnerships.

High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Bachelor's Degree and some experience with English language acquisition for adults.
