The Sumter County Library System is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter with a passion for people. The position is based at The Villages Public Library at Pinellas, Wildwood, FL, one of the five branches of the Sumter County Public Library System.
The Outreach & Program Coordinator is a member of the Operations Team and collaborates with all Library departments and sections to engage and inform the community about Library resources and services.
This position reports to the Operations Manager.
The successful candidate will possess an outgoing nature, excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills, a creative eye for emerging and innovative trends, confidence in working independently or with groups, and a passionate advocate for libraries.
Responsibilities
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Research outreach opportunities throughout the community and make contact.
- Develop and deliver outreach opportunities with schools, community organizations, government, and other partners to promote Library services, resources, and programs.
- Maintain and cultivate contacts to advance Library outreach opportunities.
- Supervise Outreach and Programming Library Associates.
- Work across teams to coordinate outreaches; maintain an outreach schedule with details about location and staffing; coordinate additional or alternative staffing for outreach events when needed.
- Represent and promote the Library at community outreach events and meetings as a Library ambassador.
- Transport, set up, and tear down outreach displays.
- Maintain an inventory of outreach equipment and materials and make suggestions for additional equipment and supplies to enhance the quality of outreach displays.
- Track metrics for outreach attendance and prepare basic statistical reports for the Library, LS&S management, and other entities.
- Monitor the communications of other community and government organizations to stay informed of outreach opportunities.
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to customer privacy and custodianship of customer records.
Requirements
An individual should possess the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and have the required education, training, and / or work experience.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays.
- Able to work closely with the Operations Manager to plan a course for outreach services and programming.
- Formulating goals, outcomes, plans, and procedures for implementing outreach services in accordance with organizational priorities.
- Ability to travel throughout Sumter County.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with current insurance and clean driving record.
- Top-notch communicator with excellent writing, editing, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate data and trends and prepare recommendations based upon information collected.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management efficiency, and careful attention to detail.
- Team player with the ability to develop and maintain strong work relationships.
- A positive, optimistic, and supportive attitude is essential to the position.
- Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move from place to place; lift, bend, push / pull, and hold / carry items weighing up to (35) pounds, such as outreach supplies, folding tables, boxes of books, etc.
- Ability to sit and / or stand for long periods while maintaining professional focus.
