PURPOSE 

Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for overseeing the Direct Loan programs; overseeing the internal operations (packaging/disbursements/reconciliation) to ensure compliance with federal  regulations; advising current  and prospective students on financial aid eligibility, aid programs and related issues; and coordinating delinquent/default activities and other related administrative functions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the Direct Loan program: including import and export processes, batch awarding, problem solving issues, analyzing reject reports and resolving errors or issues with COD, processing credit based loans (graduate PLUS), assisting students in resolving credit issues and/or the endorser process and making recommendation(s) for enhancements and implementing new protocols.
  • Maintain a complete and current knowledge of federal policies and regulations to ensure compliance in the financial aid programs. Implement new regulations including developing new forms/procedures.
  • Advise current, transfer, and prospective students on financial aid eligibility, program requirements, application procedures. Troubleshooting and problem solving complications in loans or any financial aid issues for current students.
  • Package federal financial aid (loans, federal work study) according to federal regulations and school polices & procedures.
  • Delinquency/default management: responsible for contacting delinquent students (to resolve delinquencies and prevent defaults); for tracking the delinquent/default borrowers along with analyzing any trends; for communicating with recent graduates (to prevent delinquency) and for researching options to reach out to borrowers and to educate them (webinars, training, etc.).
  • Transmit funds to Accounts Receivable through the FATR process. Reverse funds as needed and calculate loan refunds. Collaborate monthly with the finance office regarding Direct Loan reconciliation.
  • Oversee and coordinate ISIRs: provide guidance & direction to the Financial Aid Advisor on Verification policies & procedures, resolving conflicting data/issues and resolving C-flags (selective service, social security, immigration, defaults).
  • Shared responsibility for the supervision, training and monitoring of the work load of the Financial Aid Advisor. Supervise, coordinate work load and train financial aid work study students.  
  • Represent the financial aid office at various events (Champions Weekend); perform presentations for Loan Renewal Sessions, Financial Literacy Class, and Repayment Strategy Sessions.
  • Role of acting Director (in the absence of the Financial Aid Director), and responsible for providing office direction, decision-making and participation in college meetings, as needed.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred (experience may be substituted for degree).
  • 3 to 4 years of management in financial aid or equivalent with increasing scope of responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State programs and regulations regarding Financial Aid programs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Datatel, COD, Edconnect, Edexpress, or other integrated software.
  • Ability to run reports, interpret and implement complicated data and formula.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  1. Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. 
  2. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. 
  3. Must be able to lift 35 lbs., retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking, carrying, grasping, hearing, seeing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Work performed in a general office environment. 
  2. Periodic travel may be required.
