Registered Nurses are responsible for assessing patient health problems and needs, developing and implementing care plans, providing supervision and delegation of tasks to ancillary personnel, and maintaining accurate, timely and complete medical records. The Registered Nurse administers care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. The Registered Nurse also provides education to patients and families and functions as a key member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team. The Registered Nurse is supervised by and reports directly to the Director of Nursing of the Hospital.
Job Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Use of the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic, quality patient care services in accordance with care plans and the policies and procedures of the Hospital
- Participation in admission and discharge processes for patients
- Completion of medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting legibly and within specified time frames
- Accurately record assessment data in the medical record
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Discuss plan of care with the patient and their advocates, explain procedures and listen to concerns
- Administer First Aid to patients and staff, if necessary
- Be prepared to perform Basis Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Administration of oral, rectal, injectable, and IV medications
- Perform capillary blood glucose “finger-stick” testing
- Urinary catheter, ostomy and wound care
- Participate in hospital provided trainings pertaining to behavior care for patients receiving mental health services
- Monitoring, recording and reporting changes in patient conditions
- Modifying patient care plans as needed to address needs throughout hospital stay
- Consultation and coordination with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
- Assess the need for, order and collect specimens and interpret, evaluate, document, and communicate diagnostic tests appropriately
- Provide supervision, education, and support to direct care staff
- Participate in facility surveys and Joint Commission accreditation process
- Ensure the Patient Rights and Responsibilities are being provided to all patients at admission in terms, language, and in a format that is demonstrably understood
- Adjust staffing needs according to census and acuity
- Responsible for seeking out, and being in compliance with, the Hospital’s Policy and Procedure Manual
- Ability to prioritize patient needs with the unit schedule
- Comforting and professional bedside manner
- Understanding of Infection Control principles
- Desire to provide education to patients about health promotion and maintenance
- Must remain positive and productive within our dynamic environment
- Ability to take direction and complete tasks as assigned
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism with co-workers, patients, families, and others
- Efficient computer skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Perform the duties of the Ward Clerk, when necessary
- Be able to work independently and with other Hospital staff
- Models leadership for the department by example
- Educate/ Train staff when necessary to maintain patient safety

Education Requirements
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in accordance with the laws of this state, and must maintain licensure in good standing with the Idaho State Board of Nursing
- MANDT training and CPR certification within 90 days of hire
- Have sufficient knowledge of English, spelling and math to compile reports, make out requisitions, maintain simple records and perform various clerical tasks
