We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our global Legal team in New Zealand or Australia. Your role is to advise our business partners on legal matters pertaining to both their day to day operations, as well as their broader strategic imperatives.

What you’ll be doing:Â
- Serving as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders (senior leaders and executive team) advising on general commercial and product matters;
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a wide range of legal agreements, including technology agreements, partnership agreements, vendor contracts, customer terms, company's compliance policies, procedures and program;
- Keeping across relevant changes to law in APAC;
- Advising Lightspeed’s APAC offices on marketing and competition issues, leasing, and assisting with RFPs, customer and partner negotiations;
- Scoping and leading projects required to implement new legislative developments, and developing legal training for colleagues and stakeholder groups;
- Providing ad hoc analysis and supporting complex, cross-functional and/or multi-jurisdictional projects and special requests from the executive team.
And a little bit of....Â
- Continuing to build the legal function at Lightspeed in APAC;
- Implementing new policies, processes, and procedures;
- Liaising with regulatory bodies and government authorities, as required;
- Assisting with litigation management, M&A and similar transactions, corporate legal requirements, and other compliance matters, as needed;
- Drafting and advising on employment contracts and workplace policies.
What you’ll bring to the team:
We’re a legal team of 20 people located across Canada, the US, Europe and New Zealand. Our team of strategic business partners works closely with stakeholders to provide pragmatic and actionable support and guidance to help them achieve their business goals, adding value across the organization.Â
We're looking for a senior candidate who has experience with the following:
- Minimum 6 years of experience working in private practice and in-house (preferably in a tech/SaaS setting). A portion of which has been devoted to hands on commercial contracting;
- Extensive experience advising on legal issues affecting businesses;
- Experience working under New Zealand and/or Australian law;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including professional-level proficiency English and legal writing;
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, terms and conditions;
- Strong knowledge of commercial law, contract law, employment Law, and data protection/privacy law.
