Job Description: Operations Manager
Overview:
The operations manager works in a supervisory position and is responsible to assist the plant manager in general plant operation and maintenance to achieve the assigned production objectives by motivating the staff members.
Operations manager duties and responsibilities may include interviewing, selection, and hiring; training new and existing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; authoring and discussing with employee’s performance appraisals; addressing employee performance and corrective action plans; employee motivation and rewards. Organizing the budget of the company in collaboration with the plant manager, as well as leading the maintenance team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate and direct the staff members regarding the activities that need to be performed in the absence of the plant manager
- Drives safety performance and works to create a safe environment
- Makes sure that all the safety and precautionary measures are taken care of by adhering to the company rules and regulations; develops new standards as needed
- Monitor and execute the buying, selling and quality of the material used in production to give maximum output
- To make optimum use of the equipment and available manpower to ensure improved productivity; understand and drive improvement of key measures like OEE
- To ensure that the work gets done as per the priority within the framed budget by maintaining the quality standards and delivering the products on the given deadline
- Implement new plans to ensure better results in accordance with the quality standards
- To maintain, compile, store and retrieve any data and information related to the production
- Works with plant and external partners to develop training systems and plans; can also train the employees in case at any point a backup is needed.
- Can implement different ideas to provide innovative operating procedures and methods to eliminate the obstacles in the production and improve the quality after discussing with the plant manager.
- Needs to revise the schedules in case of absence of employees or in case of failure of production equipment.
- Reviews the production, quality, operations, and maintenance reports to understand successes and improve opportunities.
- Can provide some suggestions to reduce the cost of production.
Education, Skills and Physical Requirements:
- Must have a “roll up your sleeves” approach, be highly analytical and forward thinking
- Able to analyze and communicate data and results
- Limited / local travel for select meetings; opportunities for bench-marking travel to other locations as needed
- Excel & Outlook proficiency, ability to learn Lignetics database and operations software
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing/Engineering/Industrial Management or related field preferred and/or equivalent experience
- There are day-to-day elements of the operational role; there are also requirements for resourcefulness, strategic thinking, and exceptional leadership and motivational skills
