Brief Job Summary
This position performs technical duties to assist in the provision of para-medical care in emergency and non-emergency situations. An incumbent in this position may provide logistical support through the maintenance of supply and equipment inventories. Job Responsibilities
~ Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breath difficulties, childbirth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents.
~ Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines.
~ Provides general medical care and treatment at the Advanced EMT level to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state and local regulations.
~ Administers medication and therapy or treatment to patients on site or in transit.
~ Communicates with medical personnel via 2-way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information.
~ Inspects the cleanliness and working condition of emergency vehicle on a daily basis; checks fluids, lights, electronic systems, and controls; ensures that maps, protocol books, and appropriate forms are on board; restocks all medical supplies and ensures that all monitors and equipment are operational.
~ Transports injured or sick persons to appropriate care facility.
~ Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification.
~ Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed.
~ Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings.
~ Completes required reports and medical records.
~ Ensures that each call is handled appropriately according to the level of care needed.
~ Completes required continuing education and training.
~ Maintains station building and grounds.
~ Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
~ Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
~ Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
~ Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver"s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
~ Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate state EMS certification(s), including NC Advanced EMT certification.
~ Possession of or ability to readily obtain certifications as described in SOG 104-02.

~ Knowledge of radio communications.
~ Knowledge of ambulance operations, use, and maintenance.
