Brief Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and related systems.
Job Responsibilities
o Tours and inspects plant and equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with state discharge and monitoring requirements.
o Performs laboratory tests of water samples as required.
o Calibrates laboratory equipment.
o Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides assistance and information.
o Operates plant equipment.
o Maintains and repairs plant equipment as needed.
o Performs operational control testing of various plant processes to ensure compliance with state permitted effluent discharge requirements.
o Performs adjustments to plant operations to ensure proper operation.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.
o Performs laboratory tests of water samples as required.

Minimum Qualifications
o Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
o Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years.
o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
o Possession of or ability to obtain within one year, a Water Pollution Control system Operator Wastewater Grade 1 state certified operator’s license.
o Wastewater or Water Treatment or Distribution Certifications preferred.
o Pretreatment, Lab Certification and Maintenance Technician Certification preferred.
o Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years.
