Qualifications/Requirements:
- Certifications required by Military governing board for the respective branch
- Teaching experience as a NJROTC Instructor or equivalent preferred
- Other professional and personal qualifications as deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of responsibilities
- West Lincoln High School NJROTC is an award-winning program (6 consecutive DU’s) seeking a highly motivated retired Navy (W2-06) instructor to fill the Naval Science Instructor (NSI) vacancy available August 2021. Community service involvement is part of the program, including support to school and athletic events, parades, community events, as well as participating in competitive events in air rifle marksmanship, armed/unarmed drill, Color Guard, athletic, and academics. Any applicant must be available to work afterschool, some evenings, and some weekends coaching and participating in program events. Applicants should plan to assist the SNSI to organize annual events including a military ball, unit picnic, annual orientation trips, college and museum visits, and various summer training activities (LA, Sail Academy, NC Boys and Girls State, SLT, and New Cadet Orientation Training). The contract is 10 months plus 10 days (summer) at Navy Minimum. West Lincoln High School is located eight miles west of Lincolnton, NC; centrally located between Hickory and Gastonia, NC and about one hour from Charlotte.
Goal:
- The JROTC Instructor is responsible for coordinating with school officials and other personnel to establish procedures relating to the adminstration, control, and education of students enrolled in the Junior ROTC program.
Duties:
- Assists the Senior Naval Science Instructor in the compliance with all regulatory guidelines outlined by the governing board for the respective branch
- Provides comprehensive educational instruction to students enrolled in the JROTC program
- Assesses and documents student leadership skills and JROTC academic skills
- Develops and implements instructional lesson plans utilizing the JROTC lesson plan and curriculum materials
- Maintains documentation of student progress
- Implements appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs
- Implements instructional strategies that reflect the NCSCOS and goals of the Board of Education
- Assists in the compliance of all requirements outlined in the annual JROTC Curriculum Implementation Plan
- Collaborates with general education staff, special education staff, guidance counselors, and school administrators, as needed, to maximize program effectiveness
- Performs administrative and logistical tasks related to JRTOC program management as directed by the administrative unit
- Maintains technical proficiency in the administrative, logistical, and cadet data components of reporting system as required by the administrative unit
- Maintains fundraising accountability as required by school and Board of Education policies
- Assists in the coordination of all JROTC department personnel to plan, organize and conduct JROTC extracurricular and co-curricular activities to meet requirements established by the administrative unit
- Maintain inspection standards as prescribed by the administrative unit
- Mentoring students in the JROTC program
- Providing instruction from the Leadership curriculum, providing instruction in drill and ceremony, providing instruction in PT activities and the proper wear of the uniform for the respective branch
- Keeping current and abreast of new developments and organizations with the associated branch of the military
- Preparing periodic reports on program administration and logistics
- Making annual presentations of the JROTC program to students at feeder schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets into the program
- Work with individual students to provide interventions
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Other duties as assigned
