CORE COMPETENCIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under direct supervision, responsible for the transmission of information from one location to another. The information can be voice, data or video and is used for LES’ transmission and distribution operations, substation automation and control, teleprotection, SCADA, generation O&M, generation resource scheduling, corporate operations, customer interaction and regulatory compliance. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring a high level of uptime, dependability, security and confidentiality for all users, applications and circuits. The consequence of error can create a direct threat to human life, the reliability of the bulk electric system, or can result in significant financial loss or penalty. Performs emergency and scheduled overtime work as required. When “on-call”, response time is expected to be 60 minutes or less, in fit for duty condition. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
- Assists, under direct supervision, in the operations, administration, maintenance, performance and troubleshooting (OAMP&T) of the following: VHF, UHF and microwave radio systems for LMR, MAS, and capacitor bank control; antenna support structures and obstruction lighting, radio coverage measurements, optical transport systems including SONET multiplexers and Ethernet; other hardware and systems including SCADA master station front end processors, RTU communication protocols, Ethernet switches, media converters, IED communication, peripheral I/O devices, network synchronization, video monitoring, telephone systems, and teleprotection systems including audio tone, mirrored bits, line current differential, and power line carrier.
- Under direct supervision, performs basic preventive maintenance on all communication equipment and systems.
- Under direct supervision, works with technicians of outside agencies to resolve telecommunication problems.
- Performs work in strict compliance with MRO, NERC, FCC and FAA regulations.
- Under direct supervision, assists the engineers with the evaluation of emerging communication technology as it applies to electric utilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Two year technical college degree in electronics, and
- Six months to one year of experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Training and experience should be specific to electronics, radio, telecommunications and computer networking.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- A valid lifetime FCC General Class Radiotelephone Operators License or a Certificate from a private sector organization, including but not limited to NABER, ISCET, or NARTE, is required within 6 months.
