On the Group Protection Appeals Team, you will provide leadership, coaching and development to your team of roughly 8-10 Appeals Specialist, Consultants, and Associates.

As an Appeals Manager in our Group Protection Claims organization, you will be responsible for overseeing full, fair, and timely appeal handling for various products, including Disability, Life, Worksite, and Dental claims. You will ensure your team is compliant with all internal processes along with external state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for ensuring your team is meeting department goals. You will build and foster effective relationships across various departments within Lincoln's Group Protection Organization.

- Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
- Manages and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Establishes and implements individual and team priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure completion of responsibility for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
- Manages and evaluates individual/team performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Serves as a resource to team members and internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Manages assigned area(s) of responsibility to ensure workloads are appropriately balanced among team members.
- Ensures that top talent is hired and retained for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Builds organizational capability within their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Manages a team and processes for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Manages the processing and administration of all aspects of more complex claims for their assigned area(s) of responsibility ensuring accurate and timely claim management.
- Approves and makes more complex claim management related financial decisions consistent with company guidelines for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Provides more complex technical guidance to claim team members on claims adjudication for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Reviews and resolves more complex escalated issues and concerns for assigned area(s) of responsibilities.
- Identifies and communicates claims trends and issues to management. Develops mitigation plans.
- Ensures all assigned area(s) of responsibility claims, eligible or ineligible for payment, conform to quality, production standards and specifications.
- Collaborates with sales offices to ensure effective service delivery of claims for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Identifies process inefficiencies and cost reductions. Develops and recommends mitigation plans.
- Ensures claims processing is consistent with applicable policies, procedures and department guidelines for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Monitors and evaluates overall metrics for team productivity and takes appropriate action to meet or exceed standards.
What we’re looking for
Must-have experience (Required):
- 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) in Insurance (Minimum Required)
- 5 Years of experience in Claims that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 2 years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience (Required)
