TEACHER – Family Reunification Program

By promoting academic achievement, Lincoln Hall Boys' Haven serves not only the needs of disadvantaged young men, we also serve the needs of society. 

 DEPARTMENT: Family Reunification Program

Funded by US HHS, the Family Reunification Program at Lincoln Hall provides a safe haven for boys 12 to 17 years of age who have witnessed trauma, abandonment and/or abuse from caregivers. The program is designed to help these children reunite with relatives through intensive clinical assessment and case management.

Job Description – Teacher

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Teacher is responsible for providing quality education in one or more academic subjects in the least restrictive environment to all assigned students.  The Teacher collaborates with School Administration and other personnel to create a healthy and supportive learning environment for students and regular attendance at work..  

 Essential Functions: 

  • Participate in the assessment, identification, and documentation of the educational needs of all children in care.
  • Implement an educational curriculum that is culturally competent, develops skills in compulsory domains, and reflects current educational best practices.
  • Teach one or more subject areas at the level assigned to this position.
  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
  • Complete all notification and reporting requirements in accordance with state and federal contract and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.

Qualifications: 

  • NYSED Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Education with prior experience (preferred).
  • MUST BE Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • ESL certification (preferred)
  • Experience in special education preferred

 Skills Required: 

  • Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Demonstrate skills in providing effective, hands-on leadership.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current educational best practices for the service population.
  • Demonstrate the ability to:
    • Work effectively with BCFS leadership, BCFS Health and Human Services Executive Director, and funding source entities
    • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics
    • Communicate effectively in English and Spanish both verbally and in writing
    • Work in a fast-paced and changing environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
    • Organize and prioritize responsibilities and duties efficiently
    • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
    • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Residential Services policies and procedures and relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards.
