Job overview

PST is currently seeking a Material Handler. This position will be based out of the PST facility located in Orangeburg, NY. This position reports to a Logistics Supervisor. We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking team member to work in a fast-paced environment to help expedite the flow of materials by supporting shipping/receiving/stockroom functions to meet our end customer needs.

This role will support the facilitation of materials flow inside and outside of the facility. While working in a warehouse/plant setting the individual will have responsibilities across receiving, stocking, issuing, packing, and shipping.

Primary responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and prepares orders for domestic and international shipment based on customer needs and carrier arrival times by communicating with carrier representatives for arrangements including special instructions.
  • Prepare shipping and customs documentation for all exports. Ensure compliance with tariff and customs regulations for international shipments.
  • Ensure adequate supply of packaging materials for proper customer and vendor shipments to avoid stock out.
  • Utilize electronic systems to perform receipts, issuance of material, customs declarations, shipment and inquiries and reports functions.
  • Understand and follow required SOP and work instructions; actively review to ensure documentation reflects current process and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Issue material to operations and prepare raw materials to ensure optimum replenishment of materials in Kanban area.
  • Communicate inventory discrepancies through cycle count and other means, escalating when appropriate.
  • Assist in reclaiming critical materials in order to restock for processing and recycling. All reclaim must be processed through the Return Material Authorization (RMA) or the Return Material Requisition (RMR). Each item must be properly identified, weighed and put to stock utilizing the Oracle system. Required to work with the Supply chain coordinator, CSD and internal management for the disposition of the reclaim items and material.
  • Communicate effectively with team members across the plant including but not limited to customer service, production control and purchasing.
  • Review incoming shipments against the Delivery Bill /packing list for correctness of piece count and review packaging conditions of materials. Note any discrepancies and/or damages.
  • Process incoming orders from vendors and customers so that material is received, data entry performed, and material put away or redistributed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Keep work areas clean and inspection ready at all times. Participates in 5S audits and productivity initiatives.

Required qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience operating material handling equipment, including a fork truck.
  • Requires valid Driver’s License
  • Passionate about safety, quality and process compliance at all times.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively since the job primarily involves liaising with clients, couriers and other operational departments.

  • Must be organized and logical, willing to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
  • Computer skills and experience to include MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and inventory/supply chain management systems.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull 40 lb. of equipment or supplies
  • This role requires the flexibility to work overtime, weekends, Holidays as required
