Supervises and participates in the preparation of meals for moderate to large groups of people. Work is performed under general supervision. Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times. Voluntary overtime may be offered; working involuntary overtime is mandatory.

About Cook:
Supervises and participates in the preparation of meals for moderate to large groups of people. Work is performed under general supervision. Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
- Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instructions from supervisor.
- Monitors work in progress to assure it conforms to instructions.
- Trains and instructs subordinates.
- May supervise other cooks in the preparation of meals for larger groups.
- Performs cooking tasks such as preparing and cooking meats, salads, breads, vegetables, making desserts and preparing special diets.
- Oversees the serving of the food.
- Cleans tables, kitchen utensils, stoves, refrigerators and kitchens.
- Keeps records and makes reports.
- May assist in setting up or revising menus.
- Estimates quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements and requisitions supplies.
- Inspects food trays and sets tables.
- Estimates cooking time required.
- May purchase groceries and supplies required for meals.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the “Voice of the Customer “and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year experience in the preparation and cooking of food on a large scale required.
- Good working knowledge of large-scale food preparation and cooking methods.
- Good knowledge of sanitation regulations relating to the handling and preparation of food.
- Some knowledge of special diets and how to prepare them.
- Knowledge of USDA Buying Guide and Federal Child and Nutrition requirements.
- Ability to prepare attractive and palatable foods.
- Ability to keep simple records and make reports.
- Ability to unload food deliveries, which requires the ability to lift and move twenty (20) pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to assign and supervise the work of others.
