What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Developer position at LinQuest?

LinQuest is seeking a Software Developer to join our team at Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. US citizenship and the ability to obtain a clearance is required.

LinQuest has an immediate need for a Software Developer with experience in object-oriented programming and strong coding skills to support the development of constructive and real time Modeling and Simulation (M&S) applications. This position requires the ability to execute software development and testing, organize small teams to generate software mission environments, and present findings to external customer groups.

Development may utilize the Analytic Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) toolkit. AFSIM is a government-approved, C simulation framework for use in constructing engagement and mission-level analytic simulations for the Operations Analysis community. The objective of AFSIM simulations is the assessment of new system concepts and designs with advanced capabilities not easily assessed within traditional engagement and mission level simulations. Prior experience working with AFSIM is not required, we will train the right candidate!

Responsibilities:

  • Development of visualizations for the AFSIM-based Integrated Development Environment for Analysis and Simulation (IDEAS) and the Visual Environment for Scenario Preparation and Analysis (VESPA).
  • Development activities may include modeling weapon kinematics, integrated air defense systems, non-kinetic effects, sensor systems, electronic warfare systems, communications networks, advanced tracking, correlation, and fusion algorithms, and automated tactics and battle management capabilities at various levels of access.
  • Work in a classified environment for the USAF program under the Air Force Research Laboratory.
  • Write and maintain code.
  • Modify and test new and existing code or scripts in software that simplifies development.
  • Analyze technical requirements of the project and adapt the code in line with them.
  • Analyze and implement best coding practices into the project code.
  • Identify and develop areas for revision in current projects.
  • Run scenarios for analysis, including coding scenarios for the AF Simulation Environment (AFSIM)
  • Test programs for errors and fix faulty lines of computer code.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math; Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other related degree).
  • 3 years of related professional experience.
  • Experience in mathematical modeling.
  • A solid background in object-oriented software design methodologies.
  • Strong coding skills using C , using object-oriented design techniques. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.
  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain a clearance.

    Preferred Skills and Experience: 

    • Master's degree in a STEM discipline, and 1 year of experience.
    • Active Secret clearance.
    • General knowledge of real-time target environments, including processor and network architectures, communication protocols and existing simulation framework design/use.
    • General knowledge of various software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to software domain.
    • Experience with programming languages that encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and assembly languages.
    • Experience in modeling and execution of engagement and mission level software environments using the AFSIM framework for military assessment application.
    • Academic, military or practical experience in fields such as aerodynamics, kinematics, guidance and control, DIS/HLA, electronic warfare, radar, infrared sensors, and/or communications systems would be a plus.
    • Experience with, or knowledge of, emerging warfighter concepts.
