Start-up Business Accountant
The Company: CarMommy (https://www.carmommy.com/) of San Jose, CA is looking for a meticulously detailed oriented part-time Full Charge Business Accountant. This position will be actively involved and in the lead role of the day-to-day full charge bookkeeping within the multiple company QuickBooks financial operations that are housed within a growing gig-transportation start-up focused on the rideshare industry. This is a unique opportunity to eventually earn an ownership stake in a growing startup with the potential to grow into a leadership role as the business expands.
- 20-30 hours a week (exempt professional position)

- Position will also include flexibility for a combination of remote at home and on-site work and be actively involved in the entire day-to-day financial operations in a growing gig-transportation asset start-up within the rideshare industry. - Salary: $35.00 to $43.00 /hour
The Opportunity: Reporting to the Co-founder and CEO, this is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor with the first ever in-house role in the accounting function that will drive and implement the day-to-day accounting structure and operation. Responsibilities will include: process weekly payroll, manage asset lists for depreciation schedule, full schedule dealership accounting, and short-term accounts payable, weekly closes to categorize expenses, and process month-end close. This incumbent will also help maintain a profit & loss statement and manage state and federal tax filings. Be a key individual responsible for managing the relationship with our outsourced CPA and other potential partners that rely on our accounting report-outs.
This position requires an individual who has a demonstrated work history and track record of having an entrepreneurial mindset, can work independently, and take initiative to complete tasks that helps the organization run a responsible and fiscally sound company.
The Candidate Characteristics: Leading candidates must have 3-5 years of strong full-charge bookkeeping and professional accounting skills including the ability to manage the function autonomously and identify what’s needed, and implement efficiencies, processes, and standards, all within acceptable generally accepted practices and methodologies. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer-oriented people skills and be a strong team player.
Must be able to work effectively in an interrupt driven environment and have a personality that is calm, cool, and collected and thrives in environments that can occasionally be very hectic.
Key Responsibilities for the Role:
- Maintaining bookkeeping and accounting analysis for business
- Create, perfect the model, and track company expenses, and processes, ensuring records kept for accounting compliance in DealerCenter and QuickBooks Online; interacting virtually with company’s outsourced CPA and other external resources as required.
- Develop procedures and maintain detailed records of accounting processes.
- Monitor, schedule and pay invoices and registrations with DMV.
- Work with administrative staff to ensure sales tax filings are correct and current
- Monitor the companies sub-prime lending portfolio and performance, providing needed financial reports to the companies creditors
- Maintain depreciation schedule for rental car assets
- Develop and maintain an orderly electronic, and when required, a hard-copy filing system
- Provide the analysis and recommendations that enables ownership to maintain the annual budget
- Provide clerical and administrative support in the accounting function or any other areas of the business to management as requested
- Adapt a business ownership minded approach and to be ready to jump in and seize opportunities which may improve business performance that you or the team identify.
- Other tasks as assigned necessary to support the company
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- Three to five years of general ledger bookkeeping/accounting experience which would include expertise such as:
- Record and pay accounts payable
- Issue invoices to and collect from customers
- Calculate pay and issue payroll to employees
- Maintain depreciation schedules for rental car assets
- Create financial statements and related financial analysis with reports
- Remit payroll taxes, sales taxes, use taxes, and income taxes
- Account for fixed assets
- Reconcile bank accounts and petty cash accounts
- Collect information as needed for periodic audits
- Maintain a coherent system of accounts, with a supporting and easily accessible and logically structured filing system
- Entrepreneurial spirit minded individual that thrives on finding savings and operational efficiencies within the bounds of general accounting practices
- Effective problem solver and ability to self-manage, juggling multiple priorities seamlessly
- Proficient with Apple products including using Microsoft Office and/or correlating Apple Office software; including Excel/Numbers, QuickBooks, and similar accounting software
- Proficient experience creating spreadsheets and updating software for bookkeeping/accounting a requirement
- Extraordinary planning and organizational skills
