This is a .5FTE contracted position. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments to ensure their academic success and overall development. This role involves creating and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), utilizing appropriate teaching strategies, and collaborating with other educators and support staff to meet the diverse needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments, in collaboration with parents/guardians, school administrators, and other members of the education team.
  • Assess students' educational and developmental needs using appropriate evaluation methods and tools, and develop instructional goals and objectives accordingly.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in various subjects, adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and communication preferences.
  • Teach students language and communication skills, including sign language, speech reading, and auditory training, to facilitate effective communication in different settings.
  • Incorporate assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance students' access to instruction and participation in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to coordinate services and support for students with hearing impairments.
  • Monitor students' progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed to address individual learning needs and promote academic growth.
  • Provide support and guidance to classroom teachers and other school personnel regarding best practices for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes self-advocacy, independence, and positive social interactions among students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, address concerns, and solicit feedback on educational goals and strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Special Education or Deaf Education (requirements may vary by state or country).
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, curriculum modifications, and assistive technology tools for students with hearing impairments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic diversity within the deaf and hard of hearing community, and a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in education.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $22,303.00 - $53,284.00 per year
