Job Overview
The Adult ESL Instructor reports to the Literacy DuPage Program Manager. The Adult ESL Instructor is responsible for all levels of beginning English as a Second Language for adults participating in the WEGO program. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working hours and location for this position are set forth in the West Chicago Elementary School District 33 Professional Services Agreement and may change each session.
Sessions for Fall 2024, include 14 Sessions: Oct 22 - Dec 12, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm 30 minutes before/after session at Wegner Elementary School, 1180 Marcella Ln, West Chicago, IL 60185. Additional paid hours may be required for prep/travel activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to enrolled adult learners
2. Support learners developing communicative language skills and moving toward self-sufficiency through instructional methods, techniques, and strategies which develop foundational English language proficiency needed for survival and everyday communication as a community member, parent, employee and student.
3. Assess learners’ skills, needs and interests on an on-going basis.
4. Design lesson plans and develop curriculum materials focused on communicative language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing), related to survival and everyday language skills and contexts.
5. Conduct learner assessments (formal and informal) and document learner performance and participation.
6. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
7. Manage and monitor learners’ use of materials in the classroom.
8. Record attendance.
9. Collect data and complete reports as required.
10. Perform other duties as assigned

Required
- Bachelor’s degree required with major coursework in education, reading, applied linguistics, or related field
- Three years’ teaching experience teaching in community-based program with adult learners, in a similar setting
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and specific needs of adult learner
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations
Preferred
· Spanish speaking

FLSA Status:
Part-time/temporary, non-exempt. This is not a standard part-time job. Time and number of sessions will be set by the West Chicago School District and is dependent on them receiving grant funds. Call for additional details.
Pay Rate:
· Classroom instruction will be paid at a rate of $65 per hour (not to exceed 2.5 hours per session).
· Up to 3 hours per week of prep time will be paid at a rate of $25 per hour.
· Travel time to/from location will be paid at $25/hour.
· Mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.
· No additional benefits are provided.
