The Space Based-Infrared System (SBIRS) uses infrared surveillance to provide early missile warning for the U.S. military and is considered one of the nation’s highest priority space programs. The system includes a combination of satellites and hosted payloads in Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) and Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) and ground hardware and software. SBIRS missions are as follows:
•Missile Warning - to provide faster, more accurate reporting on theater and strategic missile launches
•Missile Defense – Supporting effective operation of missile defense systems against national and theater threats
•Battlespace Awareness – Supply comprehensive infrared data to help characterized battlespace conditions, supporting force protection, strike planning, and other missions
•Technical intelligence – Gathering data to characterize a variety of infrared signatures to enable rapid identification of events.
When you join the SBIRS ground software team you will develop software that will leverage current and yet untapped sensor system capabilities for collection, detection, tracking, and characterization of new and changing threats.
We are seeking a software engineer to join the SBIRS ground software development team. In this role you will work with a dynamic, fast-moving, high performance team to design, code and test, new software as well as modify existing software.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor Degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field
• 5 years of SW development experience (or 3 years of experience with a Master Degree)
• Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
• US citizenship is required
Desired Skills:
• Experience with Object Oriented design/C /Java/Linux
• Able and willing to learn new languages and tools
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Experience mentoring and providing technical leadership to other developers
• A passion for developing high quality software
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
