The Group Living Lead is responsible for overall operations at the assigned department which includes performing duties in the areas of administration, operations, and programming. In addition, they must carry out various administrative duties for the home. The Group Living Lead works as a team member with Direct Support Professionals to create a home environment that facilitates individual learning and independence while enhancing each individual’s dignity.

Requirements

Administrative Duties


  • Coordinates the initial and ongoing training of Direct Support Professionals.
  • Monitors the performance of direct reports and assures prompt disciplinary action, re-training, recognition, etc. as appropriate.
  • Provides ongoing support and communication to staff.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings.
  • Assures the completion of performance evaluations, both introductory and annual.
  • Assists in scheduling staff to assure proper coverage on all shifts within the approved staffing limits.
  • Approves time sheets and paid leave for direct reports.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the home.
  • Monitors the maintenance needs of the home and vehicle if applicable and completes Sys-aids as necessary.
  • Assures completion of emergency evacuation drills to meet ISDH guidelines
  • Administers the home’s petty cash funds.
  • Coordinates purchasing of supplies and groceries for the home and manages credit card use, within established budgetary constraints for the department.
  • Monitors the census of the home.
  • Assures the documentation of laundry hours for the home.
  • Assures compliance with all licensing, regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participates as a member of each individual support team and attends Annual and Semi-Annual meetings.
  • Monitors the completion of all ACCEL documentation pertaining to goals and objectives.
  • Monitors implementation of Individual Support Plans and Behavior Support Plans.
  • Monitors the implementation of each individual’s daily schedule.
  • Works with day program to resolve day to day issues of individuals.
  • Assures appropriate documentation of Program Plans.
  • Assists the Program Manager in completion of annual assessments.
  • In cooperation with the nurse monitors the health care needs of each individual.
  • Monitors individual’s diets and monitors implementation of menus.
  • Monitors medication supply and assures supply is adequate and medications are being administered as required.
  • Monitors the financial needs of each individual and assures needs are met.
  • May be required to work in a direct support capacity as necessary



Direct Support Duties


  • Provides a positive environment for individuals served that allows for learning and enjoyment of activities.
  • Completes all doctor appointments and assures all doctor appointments to assure ISDH requirements are being met.
  • Provides day coverage when clients are home sick from day program.
  • Provides consistent meaningful activities.
  • Encourages individuals to be as independent as possible in their daily routine and takes advantage of every opportunity to teach.
  • Initiates activities and encourages individuals to participate in activities.
  • Teaches individuals in the areas of house cleaning, household maintenance, grocery shopping, and nutritious meal preparation and clean up, personal grooming and bathing, toileting, dressing, etc.
  • Implements goals and objectives as identified in the Individual Support Plan and implements Behavior Support Plans.
  • Actively listens to individuals and encourages them to express their personal preferences
  • Identifies the personal interests of individuals.
  • Assists with positioning, transferring and personal care of individuals.
  • Transports individuals to community outings and activities such as church, dances, etc.
  • Provides for the dignity of individuals by assuring personal cleanliness including monitoring the condition of personal possessions, clothing and adaptive equipment.
  • Properly administers medications and promotes a healthy environment.
  • Assists individuals with money management.
  • Serves as an advocate for individuals.


General Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the health and safety of individuals served by LOGAN and staff.
  • Expected to serve as a role model for individuals served and other staff.
  • Expected to serve as an advocate and to protect the human rights of individuals served.
  • Expected to participate in training as required by your supervisor or for all LOGAN staff.


QUALIFICATIONS


Education


  • High school diploma
  • Some college education preferred


Experience


  • Two years of general supervisory experience required.
  • Two years of experience in direct programming for individuals with developmental disabilities.





Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration Certification required (or the ability to obtain certification).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • No evidence of criminal activity involving a dependent population or any violent criminal activity.
  • Possess the physical ability to lift individuals using one man lift procedures. Must be able to assist up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, as well as good problem-solving skills.
  • Work well with others, demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
  • A strong sense of confidentiality, knowledge of community services, and good judgment are essential.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and adapt to stressful situations quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of individuals.
