What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Attendant position at Lollypop Farm?
Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. In 2020 our organization adopted out over 3,500 animals to new homes. Lollypop Farm also offers a variety of resources to help pet owners address challenges that may result in shelter admission of their pet. The Farm Attendant's primary role is to care for and rehabilitate farm animals at Lollypop Farm, work on improving adoptability of the animals and to educate the public on the care of farm animals.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide compassionate care to the animals in our care
- Maintain animal care and cleanliness by feeding and cleaning all farm animals
- Provide educated responses to the public's questions
- Work with the animals to improve their adoptability
- Assist in grounds maintenance (including, but not limited to, raking and shoveling)
- Operate vehicles, equipment (including, but not limited to, lawn mowers, weed whackers, tractors and utility vehicles) and attachments (including, but not limited to, manure spreader, bush hog, and York rake)
- Occasionally oversee volunteers in performing the requirements of the position
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable state and federal laws
- Observe all safety rules and regulations for self and others
- Maintain good housekeeping
- Perform other duties as requested
Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent education. Large animal study and livestock care experience preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position.
Skills: Ability to interpret and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to communicate simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to solve practical problems and prioritize a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions. Ability to operate a tractor, shovel, rake, grooming equipment, bush hogs and tractor rake.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building and move weight up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to communicate with others. Occasionally required to move excessive weight.
