The program director for the Associates of Science degree in Health Sciences will work under the direction of the department chairman. The director has considerable latitude for initiative, judgement, and for providing the administrative leadership for the program. Responsibilities include administration, assurance of program education effectiveness, and curriculum planning and development. The director is responsible for assuring that the program meets University standards and documentation requirements.
Program Governance/Administration
- Develops, implements, and evaluates program plans, goals, and policies
- Maintains essential program records
- Responds to professional accreditation requirements
- Participates in departmental budget planning
- Conducts program meetings when appropriate
- Delegates appropriate program administrative responsibilities to individuals and/or committees
- Participates in selection of program staff and faculty
- Serves as an advocate for the program
- Evaluates faculty performance as delegated
- Keeps faculty informed of program, School and/or University policies and decisions
- Assists in conflict resolution among faculty
- Appropriately implements and communicates faculty decisions
Student Affairs
- Participates in recruitment of students
- Oversees student selection process
- Coordinates/conducts program orientation for each new class of students
- Reviews student progress each quarter during the program
- Deals with unsatisfactory student performance/progress
- Keeps students informed of program, School and/or University policies and decisions
- Informs students of any national certification requirements, and their individual certification status
- Verifies student certification applications, if applicable
- Coordinates ongoing evaluation of current students and program graduates.
External Communication
- Communicates program activities and plans to the department chair
- Promotes the program's image and reputation within the University, profession and community
- Processes appropriate program correspondence
- Completes forms and surveys
- Initiates and maintains liaison with external agencies and institutions
Professional Development
- Promotes diversity among faculty, staff and students
Job Summary: The Instructor's responsibility encompasses education, research, and/or service. Demonstrates loyalty to the mission, policies, standards, and regulations of his/her department, school, and the University, and follows the administrative policies set up by the University and the individual school. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: A baccalaureate or higher from an accredited institution, registration and/or licensure. A demonstrated interest in clinical or classroom teaching. Two or more years of professional clinical practice and/or classroom teaching experience. Prefers documentation of three years' full-time experience in the professional discipline. Documentation of teaching experience (minimum of one year). Supportive of the Christian mission and goals of the University.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of current technology and educational media used in teaching and presentations. Able to effectively communicate changes and instructions in a professional, effective and positive manner. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position as well as Canvas and Banner. Able to communicate effectively on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
