Description of Job : Assists nutrition faculty with the day-to-day responsibilities, works in partnership with the Dietetic Internship (DI) Director to oversee campus interns and provides instruction and support to faculty, staff, interns or students as needed.
Job responsibilities :
NTR 21L, Food Science Laboratory
- Sets up for foods and equipment before lab
- Assists the instructor and the students during the lab with equipment, supplies, etc.
- Coordinates shopping list with the Food Shopper based on the recipes
- Serves as the liaison between the food shopper and the instructor
- Assists with grading the weekly lab reports
- Maintains inventory of foods, supplies and equipment in the food lab
- Assists the instructor in assuring that the students follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures during class
- Organizes the refrigerator, freezer and cabinets as necessary
- Serves as an extra pair of eyes, ears and hands for the lab
NTR 212L, Medical Nutrition Therapy Lab
- Assists the instructor and the students during certain lab classes (e.g., anthropometry, body composition measurements, renal and diabetic diet guidelines, enteral and parenteral nutrition)
- Tutors students who require additional help with enteral and parenteral nutrition calculations
- Assists with grading lab reports as requested by instructor
- Assists the instructor and students in the Foods Labs when modifying and preparing recipes for therapeutic diets (e.g., low fat, low sodium, etc.)
NTR16L, Cultural and Social Aspects of Foods Lab
- Similar to NTR 21L above
NTR611, DI Orientation
- Assists the DI Director with simulations, NFPE and other activities during DI orientation weeks
NTR 613, DI Clinical Experience (Interns on campus concentration.)
Assists the DI Director in monitoring the dietetic interns on campus (e.g., oversees nutrition counseling sessions, works with Aramark in developing healthful meals on campus, collaborates with the Athletic Department, etc.)
Miscellaneous
- Assists faculty with research projects as needed
- Assists in conducting the alumni survey at the end of the year (a requirement of the accrediting body)
- Assist the DI Director with data tracking, materials for seminars, etc.
Education Requirements :
Completion of Dietetic Internship required.
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience :
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- The capacity for flexibility, initiative and good judgment; and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Attention to detail, good communication, and excellent people skills are required.
