Staffing Coordinator
SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Staffing Scheduler will help ensure adequate and appropriate staffing of the facility nursing department to meet the needs of the residents based on budget, census, and as may be directed by the facility. The Staffing Coordinator must be able to work in a 24 hour operation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Essential Job Functions:
- Reviewing requests for vacation, sick, and unpaid leaves of absence.
- Fulfilling staffing vacancies in advance to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Keeping meticulous attendance records and assisting with the progressive disciplinary process if staff members accrue excessive absences and/or tardies.
- Communicating with unit managers and the D.O.N. regarding floor orientation scheduling for newly hired employees in the nursing department.
- Checking time clock punch records against master schedules and noting appropriate changes.
- Maintain a current listing of all resident care employee phone numbers.
- Work with Director of Nursing and Human Resources when scheduling modified work duty employees in accordance with work restrictions and facility policy.
- Assist employees with accurate completion of forms pertinent to scheduling and staffing.
- Complete monthly nursing schedule coordinating requests to ensure appropriate coverage of units.
- Consult with nursing department staff and supervisors concerning the staffing/scheduling needs to reduce/eliminate problems.
- Complete and post work sheets/time schedules.
- Answer employee calls regarding staffing/scheduling functions. Prepare written correspondence as necessary.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
- Ensure newly hired nursing staff has uniforms and schedules prior to first day of work.
- Assist in interviewing CNA's as requested.
- Assist in verification of employment/reference checks prior to first day of work.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent employee information.
- Maintain work area and keep the department in compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates the community hospitality promises towards residents, families, associates and vendors.
Performs other related assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Medication Aide or LVN preferred.
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent, prefer a associate's degree.
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
Special Demands
- Must possess and exhibit a strong positive attitude toward customer service and have a genuine interest in geriatric care and uphold the philosophy of the community.
Mental & Physical Requirements
- Requires ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry objects in excess of 50 pounds.
- Requires reaching above, below, and at shoulder level.
- For the safety of associates and residents, the associate is required to follow the Longhorn Village "No-Lift Policy". In all resident care situations, staff must utilize mechanical lifting devices (i.e. CAMEL equipment, Hoyer lift, etc.) and avoid manual lifting or handling of our residents. Training will be provided to all associates that will use the mechanical lifting devices at Longhorn Village. Associate must be able to work in a 24 hour operation.
Job’s Normal Work Environment:
- Works in clean, well lighted and well-ventilated community.
- Work environment involves slight physical risks that require following basic safety precautions (wearing isolation garb, as needed.)

- This position requires the limited applications of manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination necessary for the handling and operation of common activities materials.
