Job Summary:
The Science Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in science and
inquiry. He or she will also possess the ability to work with multiple levels of aptitude in each
classroom. The candidate must demonstrate a high proficiency in various levels of high school
science curriculum. Instruction in science includes content vocabulary, hands-on investigations/labs,
and knowledge of the school’s three teaching ideologies.
Job Description:
? Subject matter expertise to teach the topics effectively; responsible for creating standards based lesson
plans for all classes, while being innovative in these lessons, incorporating arts into the academic
lessons
? High level of understanding and confidence to use technology in the classroom; Longleaf is a 1:1 school
? Work collaboratively with members in the department as well as across curriculums
? Team player; engages with staff, students and supervisors respectfully and professionally
? Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with
varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities including but not
limited to students with special accommodations and support students with 504/IEP as determined by
LSA
? Follows all school policies and school related laws, including FERPA, and those pertaining to
exceptional children and Section 504
? Knowledge of safety rules and regulations for all lab instruction
? Prepare lesson plans in the assigned content area to teach required learning objectives, in a creative
and engaging presentation
? Assign and grade projects, assignments and tests and report grades weekly
? Assess students’ skills and knowledge regularly- follow school requirement for a minimum number of
varied assessments per quarter
? Create and enforce classroom rules, policies and procedures, utilize Ehall pass
? Supervise students and address behavior issues inside the classroom and at other times, such as lunch
period, reporting any needs to administration and parents
? Help individual students who are behind or struggling to learn the content, providing 3 hours of tutoring
time for students to get remediation/acceleration weekly

? Collaborate with other High School Teachers to develop lesson plans and improve the learning process
? Attend weekly PLT meetings, monthly faculty meetings, monthly committee meetings, and 3 school
required events.
? Communicate with students and parents about student progress and document progress on a
communication log
? Strong written and verbal communication skills to work respectfully with students, parents, fellow
teachers and administrators
? Takes direction and feedback in a professional manner
? Knowledge of behavior management strategies to keep students engaged and learning
? Strong organizational and time management skills
? Resourcefulness to teach effectively given the available resources and student skill levels
- Bachelors or Masters degree
- NC Teacher License in (9-12) Science
