ABOUT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN CONSERVANCY:

Lookout Mountain Conservancy (LMC) leads the way in community-centered conservation and environmental education by providing equitable and inclusive access to the Mountain’s natural beauty, wildlife habitats, recreational opportunities, and places of historical significance. LMC focuses on conservation and education to preserve Lookout Mountain’s critical habitats while fostering workforce development among urban teens.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Goal of the Project:

The Curriculum Developer VISTA will build LMC’s capacity for conservation and education that serves impoverished communities by developing curricula that foster leadership development, workforce readiness, and conservation education, benefitting impoverished and under-resourced urban youth.

• Identify and implement a data collection system for metrics related to participants in LMC’s Howard School Leadership Program
• Gather and input data on all current and past participants of LMC’s Howard School Leadership Program
• Review research and literature and relevant standards related to outdoor programming and project-based learning with disadvantaged youths
• Establish quantitative and qualitative program metrics and data collection and evaluation methods
• Develop program curricula for The Howard School Leadership Program that fosters participant success according to desired programmatic outcomes and key performance indicators
• Monitor curriculum implementation and collect, track, and evaluate data based on identified metrics
• Identify funding needs and opportunities for LMC’s Howard School Leadership Program curriculum design and implementation

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 21 years and Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, environmental sciences, or other relevant field
• Technical knowledge related to: Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Data collection and analysis
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work independently
• Work in a creative team structure
• Work in a small office setting in close proximity to other staff or people
• Sit at a computer for long periods of time, climb stairs, and carry up to 50 pounds

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

Program: VISTA

Organization: Lookout Mountain Conservancy

Organization Type: Non-profit

Term Length: 12 months (August 12, 2024 – August 11, 2025)

Average Hours: Full-time, 35-40 hours/week

Focus: Capacity Building – Education, Conservation, Recreation

Populations Served: All

Core Activities: Curriculum development, Program evaluation, Data collection and analysis, Fundraising/Grant Writing, Networking

Service Environment: Both indoor and outdoor

Living Allowance: $22,881

Education Award: $6,895 (or $1,800 cash stipend at end of service)

Relocation Benefit: up to $750 (if moving >50 miles)

Other Benefits: AmeriCorps Healthcare Allowance or Benefit Plan, AmeriCorps Childcare Benefit, Non-competitive eligibility upon completion of service
