The Chaplain provides spiritual guidance and counseling to residents and others in one of Loretto’s skilled nursing facilities. Conducts services, plans and provides funerals, memorials, and other related religious/interfaith services and special occasion events. Maintains on call availability to residents and families to provide guidance, comfort and support as needed.
Responsibilities:
Job duties specific to this position:
- Provides spiritual care visits and support to residents.
- Coordinates the provision of sacraments.
- Coordinates weekly worship services, and special services i.e. Thanksgiving Service.
- Provides family consultation and support.
- Provides direction for the spiritual care volunteers.
- Coordinates outside groups i.e. youth groups, holiday groups, confirmation classes.
- Provides guidance in the areas of active listening, prayer, crisis intervention, life review, bereavement, spiritual /religious materials, faith practices, and ethical deliberation.
- Provides services to celebrate/commemorate religious holidays and observations.
- Provides spiritual care presence to staff.
- Upon request, coordinates funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.
- Monitors admissions and makes initial contact.
- Maintains current knowledge of techniques, practices and standards for pastoral care.

INDPRO
Qualifications:
- Formation for ministry and credentialing as licensed, commissioned, ordained, with ecclesiastical endorsement from their denomination.
- Good standing in their church.
- CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) or PCE (Pastoral Care Education) required by governing body.
- At least one year of supervised ministry (internship) in a pastoral care setting.
- Ability to conduct workshops, training, and resources regarding spiritual care, theology, the scriptures, preaching.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
