What You Will Do
The mission of the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Team is to provide systems engineering support to operations and maintenance activities to the TA-55 Facility Operations Director (FOD) and to provide design and project engineering services in support of Facility Operations and the Plutonium Facility enduring mission.
PFE-DD provides design engineering CAD services for the Plutonium Facilities Division. PFE-DD is responsible for developing technical baseline documentation which is essential for routine safe operations in Nuclear Facilities.
We are currently looking for a Designer/Drafter 2 to support the Designer Drafter Group.
The successful applicant will use their positive can-do attitude while supporting the organizations, Mission. As part of the Design & Drafter Group, you will be responsible for facility drawings. You will work as part of the Plutonium Facilities Engineering multidiscipline engineering team in support of maintaining and upgrading Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) facilities by preparing quality Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings that follow LANL CAD Standards. You will interface with clients, other designers, and engineers to establish and maintain technical baseline documentation on assigned facilities/systems. At LANL, technical baseline documentation provides an accurate picture of our facilities and assets. You will complete historical drawing research and integrating it into new baseline.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: Position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and 3 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. DOE 426.2 requires a BS degree, 2 years job related experience and 1 year non-reactor nuclear experience for technical support personnel who perform work independently at nuclear facilities. The Designer/Drafter 2 position would be expected to be able to obtain the nuclear experience on the job if they do not have it upon hire before becoming fully-qualified.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills.
- Experience working in diverse teams, collaborating on designs from rough sketches with minimal guidance from a senior level technician.
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD or ProEngineer Creo or SOLIDWORKS and PDMLink.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to a mechanical, electro/mechanical, or electrical discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles for design, fabrication, assembly and fielding of components and mechanisms.
- Demonstrated understanding of component and tool design, fixturing, printed circuit boards, schematics, and facility equipment
