What You Will Do

The successful candidate will support the Group Leader with both line and program management responsibilities for the Production Liaison Group and for integrating all nuclear weapons production activities for the LANL design agency (DA) across the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) National Security Enterprise (NSE). The incumbent will support the Group Leader with directing the W-8 group and work with other LANL organizations to resolve technical and programmatic issues associated with design definition to meet DA production deliverables.

Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Work with the W-8 Group Leader and the W-Division Management Team in executing the Weapon Systems Engineering Division mission.
  • Represent the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) DA in various interactions with entities across the NSE.
  • Partner with the W-8 Group Leader in planning, organizing, and managing technical activities of the group.
  • Work with the W-8 Group Leader to develop and foster effective teams across the Group and Division to meet customer goals.
  • Along with the W-8 Group Leader, work with W-Division leadership in the areas of operational planning, strategic planning, program implementation, communications, and execution of projects and deliverables.
  • In support of Stockpile Modernization, work with the W-8 Group Leader and various system engineers on the B61 LEP, W88 Alt, and other future capabilities.
  • Recognize and act on opportunities to influence directions, policy, and vision, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Plan, organize, and use group resources effectively within budget.
  • Utilize, nurture, and develop personnel to promote excellence at all levels and establish an environment of trust and mutual respect.
  • Champion group's efforts for quality assurance, ES&H, security, conduct of operations, project management, and other aspects of integrated management.
  • Assist the W-8 Group Leader in recruiting, staffing, and diversity; performance appraisals and employee development; addressing and resolving personnel issues; time and labor approvals and salary management; weapon definition approvals, overall quality and effectiveness, and planning for capabilities; security issues.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership:

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel and internal and external customers. Demonstrated successful leadership of projects and personnel.

Teamwork:

An accomplished record of developing and fostering successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.

Production Liaison:

Experience with production liaison roles and responsibilities. Experience interpreting drawings and requirements. Experience with manufacturing and inspection process.

Nuclear Weapon Systems:

Experience working with NNSA, Department of Defense (DoD), and NNSA Design Laboratories and Production Plants. Knowledge about LANL nuclear weapons designs.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of, and experience with, handling classified material.
  • Familiarity with the Laboratory weapons production development and programmatic activities.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
  • Experience as a Derivative Classifier (DC).
  • Knowledge of engineering authorization systems, document management systems (e.g., PDM Link or like software) and applications to stockpile maintenance and configuration management.

Clearance: Active DOE Q-Clearance, or ability to obtain an Active Q-Clearance.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
