Position Overview

The English Learner (EL) Assessment & Accountability Specialist oversees the coordination and implementation of federal, state, and local assessments for ELs. The EL Assessment & Accountability Specialist develops and delivers professional development on allowable accommodations and the implementation of assessments. The EL Assessment & Accountability Specialist analyzes EL data to inform decision making and to determine districtwide and school based instructional needs.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate

  •  Keeps abreast of all federal and state EL guidelines pertaining to the annual language proficiency assessment, EL Assessment Participation Plans, and accountability measures 

  •  Develops and conducts professional learning on federal and state guidance pertaining to EL accountability measures, appropriate accommodations for English Learners on standardized assessments and the annual language proficiency assessment
  •  Collaborates with the Division Assessment Coordinator to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the annual language proficiency assessments.
  •  Coordinates the administration of the annual language proficiency assessments for EL students attending a non-traditional school and/or facility.
  •  Delivers professional learning to school leaders and instructional staff on interpreting results of the annual language proficiency assessments for ELs.
  •  Collaborates with stakeholders to develop and modify content performance assessments. 
  •  Analyzes district and school level English Learner data to guide instruction, determine areas of growth and deploy EL instructional support staff.
  •  Facilitates data conversations with teams of leaders and EL instructional staff to inform decision making, act on decisions and use data as evidence
  •  Attends and participates in various EL meetings, conferences, task forces, and curriculum groups, as appropriate.

 

 

Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  •   Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in the area of English as a Second Language; administrative endorsement preferred
  •  Three years of successful experience in delivering of federal and state assessments to EL students
  •  Successful teaching experience in EL and knowledge of current research in second language acquisition
  •  Demonstrated experience in equity issues, culturally responsive instruction, and sensitive topics
  •  Professional and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with school personnel and members of the community, including strong organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively, and a willingness to collaborate with department colleagues

Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

 

FLSA status: Exempt

Months/Days/Hours: 12 months, 248 days, 8 hours per day

Reports to:  Director, English Learner Program

Salary Level: Universal 16

Salary Scale: lcps.org/compensation

Salary Range: 84,688 to 139,523
