Technical Director - Bluegrass Testing Lab (BTL)

Purpose:

Technical Director is a senior team member whose primary responsibility is to lead BTL s material (asphalt mixture, asphalt binder, concrete, aggregate, and soil) consulting business. This includes engaging with clients to understand project goals and developing plans and work schedules to achieve them. The Technical Director will also monitor and recruit new staff, review processes, write reports, identify risks, and provide time and cost estimates. The Technical Director must have a solid foundation in Asphalt Mixture Design and Performance.

Job Responsibilities:

• Liaison: Work collaboratively with clients, managers, and stakeholders.
• Optimization: Streamline processes so that the business operates at maximum efficiency.
• Accreditation: Responsible for maintaining National, State, and Association accreditations. This includes the labs Quality Management System, AASHTO, & CCRL.
• Recruiting and Training: Bolster laboratory staff by interviewing and hiring best available candidates, providing them with adequate technical training to pass certifications.
• Leader: Motivate and inspire staff members to achieve team goals.
• Asphalt Mixtures Design: Develop asphalt mixture designs that optimizes mixtures for both cost and quality, ensuring they meet all applicable specifications and pass agency verifications.
• Technical Reporting: Generate technical reports base laboratory data that follows industry standards and guidelines. Would need to oversee reports for the follow materials: aggregates, asphalt mixtures, asphalt mixture performance, asphalt binder, soils, and concrete. Present findings in a clear, logical manner to all relevant parties.
• Research: Keeping up to date with advancements in the field, this includes proposing research projects to partner with clients, DOTs, or associations that push the industry forward.
• Business Development: Engaging with potential clients and seeking out opportunities to grow the business. Represent BTL at industry association meetings and trainings.

Education & Experience:

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.
• 5 years of engineering experience. Experience working in research, consulting, or large-scale construction preferred.
• Bachelors in engineering from accredited undergraduate institution preferred.
• Commitment to maintaining data accuracy and timeliness in processing and deliver. Attention to detail a must.
• Working knowledge of laboratory methods, standards, and accreditation (AASHTO, ASTM, ISO).
• Working knowledge of all office practices and software. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access.
